"নিপাহ ভাইরাস থেকে সাবধান!" একথা ঠিক যে পশ্চিমবঙ্গ থেকে কেরালার দূরত্ব প্রায় ৩০০০ কিলোমিটার। তবে ভয়ের বিষয় হল কোনও ভাইরাসের পক্ষে এই রাস্তা পেরনো কিন্তু মোটেও কঠিন কাজ নয়। তাই তো বন্ধু, গত ১০ দিনে যে ভাইরাসে প্রায় ১০ জন কেরালাবাসীকে ঘায়েল করে ফেলেছে, সেই ভাইরাসের সম্পর্কে জেনে না নিলে কিন্তু বিপদ। এই কারণেই তো এই প্রবন্ধে নিপাহা ভাইরাস সম্পর্কিত এ-টু-জেট তথ্য তুলে ধরার চেষ্টা করা হবে। ১৯৯৮-৯৯ সালে মালয়েশিয়ার নিপাহা নামক গ্রামে প্রথমবার এই ভাইরাসের সন্ধান পাওয়া যায়। তাই তো সেদিন থেকে চিকিৎসক মহলে এই ভাইরাসকে নিপাহ ভাইরাস নামে চেনে। প্রসঙ্গত, এই জীবাণুটি মূলত বাদুড়ের শরীর থেকে শুয়োর, কুকুর, বিড়াল, ছাগল এবং ঘোড়ার শরীরে ছড়িয়ে পরে। শুধু তাই নয়, ফল থেকেও ছড়াতে পারে এই ভয়ঙ্কর ভাইরাসটি। যেমনটা এবার কেরালায় ঘটেছে। আর একবার মানুষের শরীরে এই ভাইরাস প্রবেশ করে গেলে কিন্তু বেজায় বিপদ! কারণ একজনের শরীর থেকে আরেক মানুষের শরীরে এই ভাইরাস ছড়িয়ে পরতে কিন্তু একেবারেই সময় লাগে না। আর ঠিক মুহূর্তে যদি এই সংক্রমণের চিকিৎসা করা না যায়, তাহলে কিন্তু মৃত্যু ...
